New Steel Products for PV Racks Successfully Produced by Cold Rolled Sheet Plant of New Tianjin Steel

  • Recently, the reporter has been informed from the Cold Rolled Sheet Company of New Tianjin Steel Decai Technology Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Cold Rolled Sheet Company"), an enterprise in Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone, that, the cold base 3.0mm ultra-thick specification zinc-aluminum-magnesium S420GD grade steel for PV racking has been successfully rolled from the production line, with key quality indicators such as surface quality, tensile properties, bending properties and zinc layer thickness satisfying the standard requirements, which is an exciting piece of news. The one-off success of this new product trial production has further extended and enriched the range of specifications of zinc-aluminum-magnesium steel for PV racking, and realized the full coverage of the thickness specifications of mainstream cold-based zinc-aluminum-magnesium steel for PV racking in the market.

    It is understood that the trial production of 3.0mm ultra-thick specification products requires high level of inlet welder, optical rectifier, air knife control, cooling capacity, curling capacity, full line tension configuration of the unit as well as process control. Currently, the batch production of high-strength cold-based zinc-aluminum-magnesium structural steel products with a thickness of 3.0mm is only available at Shougang Group. The thickness of 3.0mm far exceeds the design capability of the upper limit of the thickness of the unit equipment, which is 2.0mm, and it is a great challenge to the capability of the equipment, operation of the personnel, as well as to the level of the process.

    At the beginning of this year, the renovated and debugged 3# galvanizing unit has reached production in a short period of time, with sophisticated process technology and stable equipment operation, thereby creating preconditions for the success of the trial production of new products. After receiving the trial order for development, the task team has been working in a problem-oriented manner. Based on the previous development experience and experimental data, the team has applied a number of quality management and analysis tools to develop control measures for the formation of various types of problems that may easily occur in the production with extreme specifications, for example, by tracking the production process, providing detailed statistical data, analyzing and improving the scientific analysis, and summarizing the operational standards. Furthermore, efforts have been made to optimize the voltage and current of the inlet welder, the tension matching of each zone of the unit, the rolling force parameters of the optical rectifier and the annealing process system of the furnace zone, so as to finally achieve the success of the trial production of these new products.

    The reporter has also been informed in the interview that, due to the fact that zinc-aluminum-magnesium plating features high corrosion resistance, the zinc-aluminum-magnesium products produced by Cold Rolled Sheet Company are widely applied to the PV industry by adapting to various harsh climatic environments where PV power stations are located, such as deserts and shoals; meanwhile, they are also applied in a variety of fields, such as the animal husbandry industry and the construction industry. Currently, the processed products based on this product as raw material have been exported to Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Singapore and Saudi Arabia, and have been highly recognized by the neighboring markets.
