Over the past few days, the three domestic Zhi-8 helicopters hovering over the Winter Olympic Stadium have constituted a pretty orange color and attracted people's attention. These three helicopters were jointly developed and produced by AVIC Helicopter Institute and AVIC Changfei, which were mainly responsible for performing the tasks of security patrol, medical rescue, fire rescue and special situation handling for the successful holding of the Winter Olympic Games. Subsequently, the domestic Zhi-8 helicopters will continue to perform security tasks at the Beijing Winter Paralympics.

According to Hu Mao, Deputy Chief Designer of the Helicopter Institute in charge of on-site security, the Zhi-8 series represents a large product family, and the three helicopters safeguarding the Winter Olympic Games are derivatives of the civilian model development results, modified on the basis of the domestic AC313 certificate, with greatly improved environmental adaptability and mission execution capability.
